A custody battle is heating up between Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi and her ex-boyfriend Adam Dell. Dell, a venture capitalist, has gone to court to fight Lakshmi for sole custody of their 11-month-old daughter Krishna.
Sources tell the New York Post that Dell, 41, filed a suit in Manhattan Supreme Court Tuesday night requesting full custody of Krishna, and Dell’s lawyer, Bill Zabel, confirmed the report. "Unfortunately, Ms. Lakshmi has severely limited his time with their daughter and has refused to negotiate a reasonable co-parenting agreement," Zabel said. "Mr. Dell has tried his best to avoid going to court, but Ms. Lakshmi has given him no other choice at this time."
Another source claims Dell and Lakshmi currently have an agreement that only allows him to see their daughter seven hours a week. An insider says Dell "does not want to take the baby away from her. He hopes this will result in a reasonable co-parting agreement."
Lakshmi struggled with endometriosis that went undetected for years, and doubted she would ever be able to have children naturally. In an exclusive interview with iVillage, the 40-year-old food star described her daughter as "a total surprise blessing to me." She also addressed Dell’s absence. "I don’t really feel like the single parent because I have my family and my friends around me," Lakshmi said. "I am a single parent, of course, but my mother’s been here… I’m lucky I have a lot of help."
The former model and author initially stayed mum about the identity of her daughter’s father, but confirmed last March that Dell was, indeed, Krishna’s dad.
A rep for Lakshmi says, "It appears to us that Mr. Dell remains more interested in garnering media attention than working out details to see Krishna or in her welfare." Sounds like there are too many cooks in the kitchen!
